the SteamVR keyboard is just so unfathomably ass I've now switched over to this free alternative called YuuBoard yuuzami.itch.io/yuuboard
Launch once and it replaces the default keyboard. much faster, more keys, lighter weight than overlays like XS for when u just want to use the built-in overlay

Poiyomi
- set rendering to Cutout or Transparent
- Colors > Alpha Options > Enable Distance Alpha
- set Min Distance Alpha to near-zero, Max Distance Alpha to 1
- set Min Distance/Max Distance until it looks good while moving camera around
- optionally enable Dithering

I think toggles are best, but there's also a neat feature in Poiyomi and lilToon called distance fade where u can make an object completely disappear when you get close enough. it could help for smaller props/tails that u don't want to toggle

set Lighting > Lower brightness limit to 0 on all materials
make a VRCFury toggle slider that sets _LightMinLimit to 1 on all renderers. Set default to 1 for 1%, etc.
