I watched and during Part 2 I was waiting to see "bad plays" by Hage, as suggested by some of the commentators, but like you, I saw almost all good plays. They didn't all work out, but that doesn't make them bad.

That's an interpretation though. They played like that in front of Dobes his first game. They had no reason to be confident. I think there's a tendency to play harder in front of the rookie. Hopefully they continue it as Dobes matures as he could take over #1.

This is certainly part of it. I feel the team plays more desperate in front of Dobes and if Monty got that kind of effort, he'd benefit. However, as you say, it's probably more to do with the teams (and situations) Monty plays vs Dobes much of the time.

Yep. From almost his first game with the C you could tell this kid was Habs captain material. And turns out it wasn't too early to give it to him and that he was a good choice, even then.

Fair points in terms of momentum shifting moments. Could have been a different game had the Habs kept the pace they had in the second half of the first.

I'd say your observation is spot on.

I was thinking that night how we'd be stoked if Armia did that in a Habs uniform, so good for him and good for Kings' fans. He has a few skills like that which will keep him in the NHL. But he seems to have so much more potential all the time. Oh well. This version isn't bad.
November 12, 2025 at 9:14 PM
I'm absolutely sure they do. And for that reason, I hope they make it (and as I said, it's more fun if your favorite team's players are in the event). My indifference is totally selfish thinking about how the rest could be of benefit. But we're not likely winning a Cup this year, so let them play.
November 12, 2025 at 9:12 PM
Absolutely insane that Caufield isn't in the conversation. That said, I care about the Cup, not Olympic gold (and I'm Canadian so Caufield not on the US team only helps Canada). I'd be just as happy if none of the Habs made their Olympic teams. It does make the event more fun to watch however.

You got Armia.

His rebound control seems to have always been an issue. He swallows up pucks to the chest, but low shots are often kicked out. Price didn't have that issue. But Monty isn't Price.

He will get Thursday's game for sure. If he is really good, maybe he gets Saturday too.
November 12, 2025 at 2:32 AM
But to say he gives up a bad goal per game (and he mostly has this season so far) is fair. But they haven't all been bad goals. You'd think they were by the way some talk on here.
November 12, 2025 at 2:24 AM
He gave up one bad one tonight for sure (the give away in the crease).
November 12, 2025 at 2:23 AM
It was screened coming through Veleno's legs, then screened by Struble in front of the net, as evidenced by Montembault never getting his glove to where the puck actually passed first or last, meaning he never sees it. But you can disagree. That's fine.
November 12, 2025 at 2:22 AM
Let's see how they play the third first.
November 12, 2025 at 2:00 AM
He was looking pretty good until the give away in the crease. Can't blame him on the other goals. Both great scoring chances (due to circumstances).
November 12, 2025 at 1:57 AM
I've very recently come to accept there are people who will blame the goalie, no matter the circumstance. So instead of responding to them, I have decided to just scroll past to the next intelligent comment.
November 12, 2025 at 1:55 AM
Absolutely. I play goal. My brother too (for far longer than me). We're in a WhatsApp group where some of the guys are quick to blame the goalies on goals that we say were good scoring chances, sometimes where the goalie didn't have a chance. I think we're getting through though.

He said it was all Monty's fault, then corrected himself to say it was "not" all Monty's fault. Half the fanbase agrees with the first post and the other half, the second post.
November 12, 2025 at 1:51 AM
Ha! One word can make such a difference. But you have half the fanbase with you for each post.
