It was a fun challenge to incorporate world music into the 8-bit soundtrack for my #RPG. For example, in the Panama Canal sequence, I made a track that combined Panamanian dance music with JRPG battle music tropes. I thought it turned out pretty well!

It was fun coming up with locations for my globetrotting #JRPG Geo Mythica! It's always a good time learning about cool places and then representing them in 8-bit!

For example, check out Drumheller, Alberta - dinosaur capital of the world - with its giant T-Rex statue!

Towards the end of development of my new #JRPG, Geo Mythica, we added some Ninja-Gaiden-style cutscenes to give a little more spice to certain story moments. I thought they came out pretty well!

Here's a fight with a big skeletal flaming Caspian cobra in Turkmenistan. (The gear you get for beating it may be a tad OP, actually...)

Never fear! The in-game Atlas lists all locations in recommended order along with a checklist of things to find. It may be open-ish, but it's not "sprawling" per se.

Delightful, brisk throwback RPG with plenty new to offer. You get just enough dialogue to add color to the world and contextualize what you're doing. You zip from town to town, do a little quest in each, usually involving a short gauntlet of battles and a boss, then move on. Each town is a naive, fantastical take on a real-world location. Very refreshing. Lots of cute gameplay ideas, like every player character having a unique resource to manage alongside MP. Has a reasonable, gradual difficulty curve. Characters have powerful status ailments, buffs, and stuns that you gotta use to win. If you rely on auto-attacks and play loss-averse, you'll bleed out resources. There are no random encounters, and losing a battle respawns you directly before the fight at low health. It's easier than I prefer. But battles are appropriately tuned around this and the ability to respec freely outside battle. You'll be moving skill points around from area to area to better handle specific enemy types. So the game leverages its quality of life features to make individual battles harder and swingier than a more traditional RPG can accommodate, which is thoughtful.

You can't learn that stuff from just any game!

One of my favorite things about FF5 were the periodic optional challenge fights you could do - there's something about experimenting with jobs to overcome a big fight that's really satisfying.

With Geo Mythica, I shot for a similar feeling!
