Italy's AI Bill would amend the Copyright Act to clarify that only "human" authorship matters and AI-aided works are protected if the "human contribution is creative, meaningful, and demonstrable". Will the CJEU quash them as "originality" alone would no longer suffice?

The European Intellectual Property Review's AI issue is out! Happy to see "Generative AI, education, and copyright law: an empirical study of policymaking in UK universities" (with

It was fun to host a #LegalDesign workshop at the University of Stirling! I'm thankful to Rossana Ducato for facilitating it, Ben Clubbs Coldron for doing the heavy lifting in organising it & AHRC+DFG for funding it. Avanti is the Ryanair of trains (though expensive AF). I was supposed to leave Glasgow at 8am but there was a 1 hour delay. They made me then change trains TWICE with a delay of 2 hours (pstill not arrived in Birmingham). How can the Kingdom be "united" if it's impossible to go anywhere?

Why am I going through the frankly humiliating citizenship procedure that requires me to prove I have the language skills needed to order a cup of tea? Precisely because of this: to vote the Tories out! Their racist policies show no understanding / care for higher education!

This post has the chief aim to share a decent picture of myself but also to thank Vogue Italia for inviting me to discuss AI law & ethics at the AI Symposium, and for the opportunity to learn from fab panellists Fred Ritchin, Santiago Lyon, Florian Koenigsberger, Giuseppe De Bellis, Zahra Rasool

Thanks to the Open Rights Group! MPs such as Caroline Lucas are supporting an amendment to the Online Safety Bill that would seek to protect the end-to-end encrypted services. If you have time today, please contact your MP and ask them to support this amendment #onlinesafetybill #encryption #privacy
