An interesting Q&A from George W. Bush's former Republican Director of USAID. His take on its mission, effectiveness, faults and why it should not be part of the State Department. He also helped build the largest Christian NGO in the world. www.politico.com/news/magazin...

As Goebbels famously said, “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.” USAID did not receive a gov’t subsidy of $8.2m. What actually happened is that USAID subscribed to a Politico owned publication called E&E to the tune of $44,000 over...

As a parent, you can choose to react to who your child is like this man, with love and compassion. Or, you can choose to say your child was “killed” by the “woke mind virus”, publicly attack them, and subject them to estrangement. Either way, it speaks volumes about one’s character.

Tonight, I have Reggae on my mind. A superb cover of an Isley Brothers masterpiece. From 1975, John Holt’s version of “For The Love Of You”.

This is 1974, Washington, D.C. from The Soul Searchers, led by local legend, the Godfather of Go-Go, Chuck Brown. Mr Brown picked up the guitar whilst serving a sentence for murder in the 50s. In 64 he joined Jerry Butler’s band, then 10 years later, this happens.

A piece of Bay Area history here. In 1970, a band evolved out of the Black Panther party called The Lumpen named after the theory Lumpenproletariat. This was the only release from the mixed race band as the recordings they made for an LP were sadly lost.

Late one night, in 1969, Merry Clayton received a phone call from her friend, record producer and the arranger for this tune Jack Nietzsche, asking the pregnant Merry to come down to the studio to sing backing tracks on a song for The Rolling Stones. A year later, she recorded her own version.

I love a good cover tune. And an ELO cover isn’t something that’s easy to do. This cover Odia Coates is a good one. She was born in MS in 1941 and sadly left this planet for greener pastures in Oakland, CA, in 1991. This is her version of Showdown, released in 1975.
