👋 Just left The Other Platform. I'm a NYC teacher & writer, & one of those dads who will show you ~1000 pictures of his kids if you ask to see one. Mostly, I've written MG & YA, but recently started writing #picturebooks after reading (& loving) so many with my daughter. #kidlit #kidlitchat #mglit
I most respect a description of characters that paints pictures in the least number of words possible. Just reading something now where every character is getting the same 1) hair color, 2) eye color, 3) clothing, 4) special gritty detail treatment. And it's really pulling me out of it. 💙📚

Can my #kidlit friends explain this to me. On pages like these in Mother Bruce where the text reads "So he got creative," and "Nothing worked," and the illustration adds context, are the concepts for those images more often conceived by the author or the illustrator? #askwriter #askagent #askeditor

Any other #kidlit writers absolutely adore What Do You Do with an Idea by Kobi Yamada, illustrated by Mae Besom? It's one of those wonderfully uplifting #picturebooks that I (writer dad) love at least as much as my daughter.
