I like cycling and US policy/public policy. It's great because there is zero overlap and makes for a very interesting feed. Great to see so many of you move here from Twitter!

Keep Bluesky great.
The average age of a car on the road in the US is the highest it's ever been.

You don't even need the average for that. Here's the full chart back to 1952. The highest reading ever was 111.3. The data didn't become monthly until 1978 but I've interpolated the data. Avg/mon is 85.9. That's the blue line.

I randomly ran into a guy dressed as Indy's dad at DragonCon in 2022. He even yelled out "Junior!" across the the room. Made my day and his. So, yeah, I get why someone would say it's their favorite. Connery/Ford are a treat to watch.

Did someone say Space Ghost and The Herculoids?
October 20, 2025 at 6:05 AM
Perchance, did you visit in October or November? That's the only time I remember smelling it.

In 15 years in Billings I only smelled the sugar beet factory a few times. The factory is in the SE part of town and the wind almost always blows from the west.

My friend even made a t-shirt out of it.

A picture from another commenter. You can definitely see there's no running into. She runs right by her.

Even looks like the Walther pistol James Bond uses.

It was! What's a vacation without some mementos?

My pics from the race. The rain on the cobbles was bonkers.
September 6, 2025 at 10:37 PM
The rain for about 30 minutes was insane. And then the riders hit the cobbles.

The other photo is the podium.

Alison Jackson is awesome.

Both Democrats and Republicans use the term over and over. It's not obscure. He's the amount of time used in Congressional correspondence.

It's used a lot.

Food insecurity and "poor people who are going hungry" aren't the same thing. The first is two words and specific. The latter is six words and isn't.

Call it what it is?

Okay. I'll call it food insecurity.

And because it's such a useful phrase, both Ds and Rs use it frequently.
August 24, 2025 at 9:53 AM
You're using 6 words to say less than what 2 words convey and you *still* have to explain what you mean.

Here's someone who actually analyzed the words Third Way said Ds shouldn't use. Most of the list was garbage.

But both parties use food insecurity frequently because it's useful.

I just ran across this joke. This is actual good wordplay, unlike the poem you posted.

"Is this Ghengis Khanondale?"

I beat the snot out of the computer on my first try. 36-22-42. Computer seemed to pass an awful lot, though.
