You can't have people in leadership positions who stab you in the back and then turn around and say oh well, let's move on and do nothing about that, really you're the problem for complaining about it.

What do you think of the argument, made here by MattY, that this was really about "moderate" Dems' fear of losing the filibuster?

It’s about the filibuster much more than health care

i think that a lot of apprehension about LLM AI stems from the glee many of these people have at the prospect of just replacing others they find uncomfortable or difficult

I'm literally furloughed, with a wife who was RIFed (pre-shutdown), and dog with worsening seizures. I don't know exactly what a realistic win looks like, but def feel betrayed by "moderate" Dems who chose to cave immediately after election wins, while concealing responsibility to avoid primaries.
I'm a furloughed fed in DC who's been a fan for a year, but this is wrong. If Dems said clearly that MAGA could reopen the govt on their own any time (since filibuster is fake, which DJT keeps repeating), then that outcome would have been plausible AND worthwhile, albeit with more pain thru ~Dec/Jan

but I'm more inclined to suspect "moderates" (especially those not retiring) of playing the long game (albeit maybe more out of an instinctive love for the filibuster and a general obsession with process and compromise), as discussed below by @soashworth.bsky.social and @jakemgrumbach.bsky.social
Consider a future Dem majority with a progressive agenda setter and no filibuster. The proposal will be one that makes people like CCM et al indifferent between the proposal and status quo. With the filibuster, the setter needs a few rep votes and so proposes something closer to CCM’s ideal point.

Some of the Senate Dem "moderates" are just old and stupid, much like Biden, entranced by delusional visions of "bipartisanship", but others may be thinking more strategically (albeit perhaps instinctively):

Thanks yes totally—I’m now stuck on their belief that there will be a Dem senate majority in their lifetime so their policy payoff comes in the afterlife
