Dick Cheney did more than anyone else to build up expansive and destructive executive branch powers in the wake of 9/11; he lived to see another president turn those same powers against his own daughter.

This morning, I was hit in the face by a baton.

I’m going to have a pretty gnarly bruise but we need to remember why this is happening: Trump and ICE are rounding up our neighbors, treating them as subhuman, and shipping them off to labor camps in foreign countries. It has to end.

The irony and the hypocrisy:
Texas has a bigger violent crime problem than Illinois, with a violent crime rate of 389 offenses per 100,000 people in 2024 compared to Illinois' rate of 289 offenses per 100,000 people. Recent studies also rank Texas as 48th out of 50 states for overall safety. .

ICE has held him under 24/7 guard at a hospital, registering him under a pseudonym, for *37 days* without telling him why.

A judge has ordered his immediate release.
