I voted today for offices that matter. Strong local governments are important when fighting fascism. I'm getting used to being distraught in election outcomes, but I'm still hopeful great local candidates could win today.

I've had great mentors in early childhood education. That's why these phrases have become pet peeves of mine. Changing language is difficult, but it's powerful to do so. What other phrases do people say to children that make your skin crawl? What do you replace them with?

Colleen Wilcox said teaching is the greatest act of optimism. I appreciate the sentiment, but I do not naturally lean toward optimism.

Hope, however, I am always clinging to. But hope is not bright and shiny, it's a desperate kind of faithfulness. I will keep teaching because I am hopeful.

I just finished this docuseries on Netflix and it's incredibly timely.

I highly recommend watching this and reflecting on how fascism takes hold in a country and how citizens get duped into thinking things are not so bad.
