50 years ago tonight, on Thursday, July 17, 1975, more than 200 people watched the filming of "The Giant Spider Invasion" in Merrill, Wisconsin, as actor Alan Hale Jr. played a sheriff. A truck-mounted crane moved the 35-foot spider. Five crewmen moved its legs. The scene took two takes.
