Also, anyone else remember fondly THE WAY THINGS WORK by David Macaulay? Such an iconic example of a nonfiction text that treats the young reader with respect, as a person who is curious about the world & capable of understanding complex ideas -- like the inner workings of your kitchen toaster!

More nonfiction texts aimed at younger readers! This article helped shift my understanding of what it means to support reluctant readers. One possible solution? Connecting them with all different kinds of text types, not just the novel.
