Yes a black tube, a Powerstar III Purchased from a dealer in Conn named Pauli that had ads in S&T and Astronomy for years. Rumor Celestron sent him better optics than standard fare. Tube cleaned at Arkansas Sky Observatory, Sherrod was impressed with it! Yes, controler works, but i de-fork.

Love the Golden Guides. Fossils is great. So is Spiders and Their Kin. There's a number of obscure ones. Many collect them. The Holy Grain of the Golden Guides:

My copy in its wrap. I had a little difficulty finding a copy of this. I recall reading there was a later reprint lacking the unique artwork. The short stories were first published in "Story" magazine in the 1940s.

The impotence of owning physical media keeps getting driven home. Purchased this "Legacy" Universal set in standard DVD a number of years ago. Besides the included cute resin busts, it's decent and fairly complete. Frankenstein, Dracula, and The Wolfman.

Nice orb weaver. I think it's either Neoscona crucifera or N. domiciliorum. I'm leaning to domiciliorum, due to the striking red femurs, but these two can be difficult to distinguish due to variation.

A beautiful "Longjawed orbweaver". I think it's Tetragnatha elongata. These spiders tend to build their webs above or near water. This one is above a stream in Newburgh, NY.

RIP Chuck Mangione. I'm happy I got to see him perform at my community college. This was just after his big hit, which put the fluglehorn on the map. I remember he glanced at his watch after one number, and a woman called out "Stop looking at that watch!", which caused him and the audience to laugh.

For a great read, check out "The Very Witching Time of Night" by GW Mank.
Features a blow by blow account of the production of Cat People, and the sequel. Contains brief interviews and quotes from those involved. Simone Simon was some character. There was some bizarre publicity planned for these.

Donated a carnivorous plant to my collage. In return, was gifted a cutting from a Cylindropuntia that's been growing for decades in the NY Hudson Valley. (Besides carnivores, I grow winter hardy cacti.) I think it's O. acanthocarpa var. thornberi. (Stanford's "The Cacti of the US and Canada")
