Trying to enjoy Halloween season in 2025 be like…

This anarchist critique of Jacqueline Jones’ biography of Lucy Parsons always made me chuckle.

In all my Mexican life, I’ve never met a Mexican woman named Lucía.

OC Weekly first hit newsstands in Orange County 30 years ago today. I never thought I would have the duties of ending its 24-year legendary run with a final cover story on Nov. 27, 2019.

Fifty-five years ago today: L.A. Times columnist Ruben Salazar was slain at the Silver Dollar Cafe when a sheriff’s deputy fired tear gas into the establishment.

Santa Fe Swapmeet raid:

“Omar Benjamin Zaldivar, who also recorded the agents, said ICE took “a bunch of people.”

“If you looked Hispanic in any way, they just took you,” Zaldivar said.

The number of people swept up from the raid remains unclear.”

Reminder that since Feb. 2025, WaPo opinion is a Bezos bubble of “personal freedoms and free markets” with no opposing viewpoints allowed.

But sure. Bluesky.

Hulk Hogan heard about Jesse Ventura leading a union drive for wrestlers in the 80s and said “that’s not going to work for me, brother” before snitching to the boss.

Don’t be like the Hulkster!

By the Honda Center, there’s a “Build Union” billboard as OC Vibe is being constructed by union labor.

It’s ironic at best.

In 2013, the Samuelis union-busted the Honda Center event staff.
