Rather than the collective and thoughtful thinking through of key issues by the collective to get a line, this is much more likely to just be hot takes by individuals, although in reality that’s how most left groups develop party lines, the elevated few deliver their hot takes and that is the line.

This is from a display in the German Resistance Memorial Center in Berlin. It tracks political violence by the left and the right during the Weimar Republic. The important thing to note is that while the right carried out more violence, violence by the left was more likely to be criminally punished.

Saying it like the demise of the Liberals is a bad thing. An ongoing single party state would be a problem, but it’s much more likely we’ll see some realignment in Australian politics.

It is true that the formal recognition of a Palestinian state will change nothing about the current horrors unfolding in Gaza as a consequence of the policies of the State of Israel. It is why we must call for a UN mandated protection force.

Not that the Democrats have the numbers to do this, or the majority of their reps would follow through, but it would say a lot for the ALP to be proudly backing Trump’s attacks on Iran, whilst the US congress was impeaching him for it.
