The spreadsheet was too cumbersome, so we've built a Rails app. It runs in dev mode on port 3000 for now, but I've got a Tailscale VPN set up with all my Things so I can Do Stuff from the outside. I wanna track the unit economics of this chicken thing after having owned chickens for 10 years.

So, we have a new flock of chickens and they are just starting to lay eggs so what else could I do but start a spreadsheet to start tracking? I'm also tracking feed purchases, so we're going to connect inputs to outputs here ppl.

Alrighty, the fed has this data available on their own site - fred.stlouisfed.org/seriesBeta/S... and our numbers are different.

I've updated the SQL in the middle leg - the one year min does NOT include the current month's number, but rather the trailing 12 months starting from the prev month.

It's since come back down below the threshold. Data from the St Louis Fed, which is pretty neat.

So I read about this thing called the "Sahm Rule" just now that's a really simple metric that apparently does a very good job of predicting an incoming recession. Article: www.investopedia.com/what-is-the-...
