Teen (who has always been an art kid) has been working though YOU CAN DRAW IN 30 DAYS by Mark Kistler, and I'm honestly impressed. #homeschool

#NoSpendNovember Day 19 -
I won free tickets to A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical, and while its not a show I would have seen on my own, I had a great time. Very talented cast! <3

#NoSpendNovember Day 16 -
Ran coats to the coat drive & walked around Andersonville with my sister in law. Ordered a book from Women & Children First to be a Christmas present. (Best bookstore.) Took my mother in law some Minestrone & helped her with some moving tasks. Planned the week ahead. <3

Popped over to Andersonville today and, while I don't love the Christmas creep, I DO love Decorative Tree Season and its in full swing. (Photos from Brown Elephant.) <3

#NoSpendNovember Day 15 -
Made an enormous pot of Minestrone (seriously it fed 10 & will be dinner again tomorrow) and had friends over for Cranium and Jackbox games. Gather your friends and feed them. Several brought coats for me to take to a coat drive tomorrow, too! <3

#NoSpendNovember Day 13 -
Took my first AM walk in forever, wrote postcards to my elected officials, schooled the Teen (Algebra! The Nervous System! Poverty in America!) walked to the library, made dinner, watched the Suspiria remake.

#NoSpendNovember Day 12 -
A full day of school, Costco for some groceries, popped into Goodwill & couldn't help note how many Starbucks tumblers there were (bought nothing), & made pizza for dinner.

#NoSpendNovember Day 11 -
Worked this AM so I left Teen with his #homeschool tasks, then we had a friend over for tacos for dinner. That's about it. :)

#NoSpendNovember Day 10 -
It snowed, we did school (started a new unit study around PARKED), I packed lunches, Teen went to rehearsal, I dropped items at Goodwill & redeemed a free Bath & Body Works product coupon, kids had a snowball fight. Now home to make dinner & read before I work tomorrow. <3

#NoSpendNovember Day 8 -
The move...is complete. <3
Brewed myself a big jar of iced tea to get me through. A quick boop to Super H Mart for a few groceries, and now home to make dinner & watch movies & probably fall asleep on my face bc this has been a monumental task & I love this family squad.

#NoSpendNovember Day 7 - 7 hours of unpacking today after 4 hours yesterday (almost ready!) BUT we brought lunch with us today, and I managed to give away a ton of cardboard via Buy Nothing. Lol this month is derailed. Such is life. We do our best. <3

#NoSpendNovember tip - meal plan! We do a bi-weekly shop. Before, I note what we have/needs to be used, scribble a calendar, & plug in meals based on whats happening/on sale/etc. (It helps to keep a list of meals you like so you don't have to remember!) Only I read this so its sloppy lol. :)

#NoSpendNovember Day 2 -
A walk & trash pickup at Dunham Park, then my (now 10 years old!) book club where we discussed Mexican Gothic but REALLY discussed Lily Allen, Reno 911, True Crime, & how much we (white women in our 40s/50s) fucking hate ICE. Making fall pasta for dinner.

#NoSpendNovember Day 1 -
Turned house from Halloween to Fall & readied for family visit, popped to Belmont Craigin to buy (preplanned) baked goods from La Luna Bakery & take a walk in Riis Park, back home to play Chopped with my solo dinner as husband is on the road & kid will be back late.

Here's an easy tip to start #NoSpendNovember - if, it being the morning after Halloween, your kid has a huge pile of candy, grab a Ziploc bag's worth of pieces & stash them away to put in their Christmas stocking. Especially things they got a lot of. ;)
November 1, 2025 at 12:24 PM
Friends gathered for Halloween chaos in the driveway until it rained on us. Love that the teens are still into it. So much candy. Geez. <3

What I read in October 2025.
Or, all spooky all the time. 🎃 IT was a reread, Turn of the Screw was a novel study in our #homeschool, & I spent most of the month ranting about Vampira biographies. (Glamour Ghoul is SO the better of the two, fyi.) The Haunting of Paynes Hollow blew me away. 👻🎃

Meanwhile in the 45th ward, Alderman Jim Gardiner (unsurprisingly) hasn't said a word about ICE in any of his newsletters/posts BUT posts this on the very day 45th Ward Democratic committee person Michael Rabbitt gets indicted for protesting ICE in Broadview. 100% worst Chicago Alderman.
