Michigan and Detroit sports fan, unapologetic lefty, and daughter of a Teamster who finally cracked the Grosse Pointe(s) system!
How is it that I turn to the Opinion section of the NYT and I have to look at this bullshit?

Amen, sister, amen

I plan for the military for a living. This is unacceptable. We have crossed a bright moral line.
The headline of our nightmares.

We are shocked at the level of rancor in America, say the very same voters who elected a man whose entire political success is based on dividing us into into bitterly opposed camps. We are a profoundly lost (and dumb) nation.

This. 👇🏼 It’s possible to condemn the crime but not grieve the victim. His rhetoric got him murdered (unless it was a political hit) and quite possibly influenced previous right wing mass shooters. Sounds like I’m blaming the victim here. Geez. I think I am. No guns, Charlie, and you’d be here.
The murder of Charlie Kirk was criminal, wrong, and should be condemned.

And Charlie Kirk was a horrible, hateful man who spent his life radicalizing young people to embrace their worst demons by targeting women, people of color, immigrants, and the marginalized.

I refuse to sanitize him.

💯 M Gessen, my go-to on authoritarianism, had a brilliant response to this when asked about Trump's clain that some people feel more secure. They saud: 1 do not engage his lies 2. Who cares? This is not how we make good policy
“Stephen Miller unleashed a long, crazed, angry, shrill rant. It was classic authoritarian agitprop, best seen as an expression of weakness. Poll after poll has shown that the public is rebelling. Maybe that’s why Miller is panicking. The question is: Why won’t Democrats act like it?”
Toxic feedback loop has kicked in: Trump's propagandists tell credulous reporters that occupying cities is good politics for him. Media echoes this as self-evidently true. That reinforces Dem instincts not to engage.

Proud of the Motor City! Southwest Detroit is an amazing neighborhood, which has been lifted up by immigrants for generations. F off Nazis 😤

We need a national strike!
WAKE UP, CALL AMERICA

If troops are in the streets beating citizens, this isn’t normal.
We must hit them where it hurts—in the wallet.
Start a nationwide work stoppage. Stop showing up, stop paying taxes, stop compliance.
If business-as-usual continues, we are complicit.
This is our power—use it.

In a period when everything is utterly bizarre, this post takes crazy to new heights
So, yeah, this Lindsey Graham post about Trump becoming the next pope is real.

Trump let this smug piece of shit dictator sit in the Oval Office and brag that he is violating our constitution and courts. Grotesque.

So sad. My alma mater now capitulates. Michigan has so often been on the right side of history.
New story from me: Imani* was in class when she discovered a scholarship program she relied on had been shut down.

“I don’t come from wealth ... Ending the program puts a burden on individuals who don't have it like most of the wealthy people here at the University of Michigan"
A scholarship program helped boost diversity at U of M. Trump’s DEI crackdown just killed it.
The University of Michigan Alumni Association has ended the LEAD Scholars program, a merit-based scholarship that worked to improve enrollment for minority students.

WTF?! Like most of us, I have become numb to this daily shit show. But this is the red flag, fellow Americans. Welcome to facism. What are we going to do about it?
March 21, 2025 at 1:08 PM
Yes, it was. I just watched Gladiator 2 on a flight (meh), and one of the corrupt emperors appointed his pet monkey as top advisor, and I thought, sounds about right for current administration

What an apt metaphor for what we are enduring. America has been silenced.

Dem voters, remember these names. None should go back to Washington. I am so tired of our feckless leadership. Now, we must all suffer the consequences.

I walked into a Tesla showroom at a mall, smiled at the sales associate, and declared Elon Musk is a nazi.

Do not make it easy for these people.
