i’d hope there would be a way to balance the budget to allow students free or more affordable mental health services thru the U itself. if not that, then providing guidance to navigate clinics in the twin cities.

i think there’s such an important element that students may be experiencing mental health crises for the first time ever during college. they may lack the connectedness to the area to navigate mental health resources outside of the U.

i can’t imagine what it’s like for current students. the pandemic and current events definitely don’t help in adjusting to college/adult life. i know the U is a huge institution but i hope the policy around therapy sessions thru SCS changed in some way to support students better.

as a freshman at the U in 2019, i got close to suicide in my 1st semester. it was terrible. the resources on campus weren’t as consistent/helpful as i thought they would be, and the pressure of the limited free therapy sessions they SCS was stressful and made me not want to use campus resources.

Soon most people in the USA will be going from their locked house in their locked car to their secure parking garage at their secure office and will order everything online so they don't have to face the terror of the public. I deplore the fake concern limiting more access to public spaces.
