Probably my favorite fighting game, I know lots of people prefer IV, but III’s tactical mode was a fun little addition that sets it apart from so many other games. Maybe I just hate fighting games and prefer strategy games?

Every character’s arc is so good, especially Vivi and Freya, and Wueen Brahne and Kuja are some of the franchise’s best villains, but the meta-storytelling with Zidane’s theater troupe and the play-within-a-play really makes the writing in this one stand out.

I’m sorry, I know it was groundbreaking when it came out and I actually really enjoy the game, but it’s just not as good as some other titles in the series that don’t get nearly enough recognition.

This is cheating a little bit, since it came out in Japan in 1986, and was only released in the US in 1989, but it was difficult for me to find a game that had a release in my birth year that I had spent any significant amount of time playing. I loved these games as a kid.
