also, an unexpected added benefit of the fact that they are really heavy because they are all “lead” is that they really help build finger and grip strength for kids as well as helping highlight the change in feel of different grip, particularly when shading (inertia + leverage of change in fulcrum)

if you rely on IRA or 401k you can get a hardship waiver to withdraw to make your bills but if you have a defined benefit plan you can’t. even if you have a DC plan you still need to go through OPM for FERS’ TSP accounts.

obviously a lot depends on my personal estimates of multipliers but 6-8 weeks you start getting into “whoops, single-handedly caused a recession” territory just bc backpay comes too late to avoid the credit delinquencies crystallizing.

nothing is ever new. either we ruin the environment we live in, we spend too much time and resources killing each other and then our basic needs go unmet, or some disease or natural disaster just up and wipes out half the population. same as it ever was. and in the long arc, changes in local climate
