Saw Mickey 17 last night, really enjoyed it! It’s no Parasite, but that’s obviously an extremely high bar set by that film. Mark Ruffalo and Toni Collette gave real “I hate these characters with every fibre of my being they’re such amazing actors” kind of performances.

We didn’t fair too badly in the big wind all things considered. This piece of fence went down during the storm back in December so expected it wasn’t gonna make it through this one. We were blessed in Waterford, hopefully others around the country haven’t sustained too much damage either!

Finally got it to upload! This is about 30ish days into learning this style of playing banjo so I’m no expert at all and I’m only using online resources but I’m pretty proud of my progress so far!

Update: Can’t tell if he’s a fan or REALLY hates it. Usually runs for the hills when I play guitar (and I kept that up well beyond 16!) so I think he likes it. Or just a Woody Guthrie fan. Nice to have an audience either way, even if he does totally put me off.

When I was 16 I took lessons for Irish 4 string tenor banjo. Was gifted great granddad’s 5 string to keep it up. Completely different instrument, so never bothered with it. Luke Kelly had the same type though, so if it’s good enough for him…

I saw The Scratch and DUG the other night! I love Irish music so much! I hope to see so much more of it in 2025! My New Year’s resolution is to contribute more to Irish music myself (but we’ll see, have to navigate the hangover tomorrow first.)

Saw Kneecap last night. Considering they’re grieving, it really was a stunning show and such a beautiful celebration of a life lived in service of the Irish language. The largest Irish language gig in Belfast’s history. I was in tears at the end. An-mhaith ar fad. 🎵🇮🇪
