I teach at an #AOI, so I do not use textbooks, which means it must be publicly available. I'm especially interested in literary works from #Aotearoa that forward #Maori and #Samoan and other ethnic voices and/or treat Te Tiriti o Waitangi critically, fwiw.

I don't think this reading is born of bitterness; I know some of the publication awards winners, and they deserve all the flowers! But maybe Cs disenfranchises teachers when the research orientation so strongly outweighs the teaching element.
Regardless, I had a great conference and hope to return!

What I mean by research getting priority shows up, for example, in how many research awards were announced both in general sessions and the awards ceremony, while the Nell Anne Pickett Service Award and the Outstanding Teaching awards were only presented Friday night at the awards ceremony.

It can feel frustrating how #Teaching gets less attention than #Research, which I addressed in my talk. I heard this come up in multiple ways this year, and I hope we as a professional community can think about this too in terms of access and welcome.
