Leftist but doing it wrong. Here mostly to talk shit about technology and the people who use it.
One of the many things that bothers me about this is that none of these people have ever been the "architect" of anything valuable. These rent-seekers try to tell average people that this is what brilliant people are like. It's like society's being destroyed by an episode of Bones.

Trump needs to woo Mamdani because it's his best shot at coming back to New York.
He's exactly the kind of asshole that thinks you can only really be a big shot if you're in NY. He knows Florida sucks. He's basically Boss Hogg down there. Do you know how sweaty he is right now? It's November.

I feel an urge to explain that it's not my explicit goal to poop at the office, that's just where I always happen to be when I finish my coffee!

Sometimes I think about taking little snippets from my day and showing them to some medieval scholar.

I'm not advocating anything, I just think it's an interesting thought experiment to consider the possible impacts of, once per year, finding the richest person in the world and executing them.

Tech field job market status: I just "passed" a technical screen for a platform I've never used before because the hiring manager is afraid they'll lose their funding allocation for the position if they don't hire someone for it *immediately*

We keep hearing that AI will be the next smartphone but I'm pretty sure it's actually going to be the next jacquard loom.

With the weird amount of ceremony around this thing I feel like @altspaceforce.altgov.info is missing an incredible opportunity to bestow an honorary commission on Charlie Kirk at the rank of Captain.

I'm not a very good reader. Could @governorferguson.bsky.social or someone help me understand how governor.wa.gov/official-act... relates to Charlie Kirk?

All these comparisons about Charlie Kirk and Hitler are really irresponsible because he was clearly Goebbels.

Really conflicted about watching these heartland farmers getting their faces eaten by shitty policies they supported because it feels like justice but also I don't know if being duped is immoral and also also I want farms to continue to be a thing.

Eudaimonia has 2 parts: having good goals and accomplishing them.

Do the other branches of the military have headquarters? Space command's is in Colorado?
I have so many questions about this announcement but I guess if I have to choose the biggest it would be:

"Where are the Epstein files?"

I'm getting tired of telling people I am becoming extremely cynical so I've started in stead saying "I got that DAWG in me" and the reactions are broadly more positive.

When we think about the singularity and computers surpassing us to train the next round of computers, have we thought about what exactly we mean by "surpassing" us?
Like, I know it's not a perfect metaphor, but the ways evolution has defined "better" in practice have been a little dicey.

Oh shit, who's going to be in the room when he find out that there's a bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor?

Coinage is maybe the oldest, most adopted idea of implementing a standard.
Making a special, proprietary one to talk about how great standardization is actually the most Microsoft thing I've ever seen.
I don't know why I bought this.

@searchliaison.bsky.social When I share a link I think that you actually already know that I don't want to share 300 characters of gibberish encoding that link along with a bunch of tracking data.
So I guess my question then is: what the fuck, man?

The hardest part of trying to do a thing or be a good person or whatever might actually be just how many people who sound convincing are completely full of shit.

Just a real fucking mine field out there of well-intentioned nonsense mouth noises that seem so good but will not serve you well.

I don't actually believe in evil. I don't think there's anything there you can point to that's not really just crazy or stupid underneath.

One of the *many* problems with doing coding interviews is that for any given problem, popping into an IDE and typing out code is like step 15 along the road to a good solution.
