III The blackbird whirled in the autumn winds. It was a small part of the pantomime. A digital illustration of Stanza III of the poem, "Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird" by Wallace Stevens. A red-winged blackbird flies above a metal contraption made of old rusty tin wind-up toys. It is placed over a rectangular hole in the ground that emanates purple light. Emerging from the biggest hole is a man playing a burning violin; his arms holding the instrument and the bow are emerging from two smaller holes. The arm holding the bow is coming out of a different tree than the rest of his body, revealing the surrealistic and nonsensical nature of the scene. An ammonite and a pile of uncut diamonds are seen in two other cut-outs in the tree. Also emerging from the trees are steel smokestacks belching copious amounts of black smoke and sparks. In "Will-o'-the-Wisp," Orick, Argyle, their human friend Ursula & mountain lion companion Leona investigate a mysterious light in the forest outside Ursula's trailer. I've finished almost 100 pages & am about halfway through the story.

Orick asks Wicked Jenny, "How many rich people do you encounter out here in the woods?" Wicked Jenny says, "Several a year, in truth." Wicked Jenny points into the distance and says: "There is a private men's club over yonder, frequented by the bourgeoisie. One or two invariably wander past my pond, often inebriated." Wicked Jenny goes on: "And I keep that vending machine stocked with cigars and cryptocurrency. It distracts them long enough for me to pounce upon them." Orick looks up at a vending machine on the shore next to the pond.

Argyle asks Wicked Jenny, "Wait a minute. How do you know how rich they are?" Wicked Jenny replies: "I ask them." From out of frame, Argyle says, "And they TELL you!?" Wicked Jenny answers, "Aye." Wicked Jenny points at Ursula and says, "She did." Ursula glances guiltily at Argyle, who looks disappointed.

Orick, a Sasquatch, grabs Wicked Jenny, a Grinteeth, and says: "Jenny, no. I won't let you drown my friend." Ursula, a human person, is sitting on the bank next to a pond and asks, "Orick, you know her?" Beside her, Argyle, an extraterrestrial, holds her shoulder protectively. Orick answers, "Yes, Jenny is a Grinteeth." Wicked Jenny, interrupting Orick, says, "WICKED Jenny! My name is Wicked Jenny." Orick continues: "Grinteeth stalk and drown anyone who wanders near their pond." Jenny responds: "I was just about to release her!" Wicked Jenny, glaring at Orick, says, "And I don't drown EVERYONE. Only the one percent!" as she jerks her arm from Orick's grasp. From out of frame, Argyle says, "Huh?" Wicked Jenny explains: "I only drown the one-percent-wealthiest people! I swear it!" Ursula says, "Cool, she's a Jacobin Grinteeth!"
