Yep for sure. Especially if you have a franchise and they might but your other games. But if they never intend to buy and did it to help, they may still never get it on sale. I can well imagine some people have done that with our casual games for example.

Or if you were pitching to a publisher, helps inflate the number. But it could lead to false expectations of the number of launch sales.

Yeah maybe though it does hang around on your wishlists which people will see, and some people clear up (during sales etc.) Another issue is if people wishlist to "help" the devs even though they will never buy. The help is minor in that it just boosts the WL number and maybe the Steam algorithm.

Seems like a good game so far. Decent metroidvania. Looks very nice. Feels fluid. Don't really care about the story (sorry!)

The absolute worst yep.

I do this but it drives my wife mad. But I always find good stuff (unless it's a poorly designed game :D)

Hello my people.

My surname was mutated into offensive versions at school. Kids are shits sometimes.

Anyway, never blame the wishlisters. Wishlisters are great!

Look inwards instead, or look to fate...

Forbidden Solitaire on Steam
Forbidden Solitaire is a card-slashing horror game about unearthing the contents of a cryptic 1995 CD-ROM that should have never existed. From the creators of Ancient Enemy and Home Safety Hotline.

(years after I mean)

Well I reclaimed it after I invented it in 2018 and then so many people talked about it and it didn't have a name, and I lay forgotten in the dust :D
November 10, 2025 at 8:10 PM
(hint: This is also why some devs advertise, to get the algorithmic flywheel spinning)

You can also have positive events occur at launch (planned or luck) which greatly affect organic sales. That doesn't mean the wishlist quality suddenly changed.

Also if you sell enough and Steam's algorithm promotes your game, your wishlist quality didn't go up.

It would be great if there was a way to find out the quality of your wishlists via some surveys or something. But probably those would be skewed somehow to the type of people who do surveys.

It's why you have to charge a tiny amount if you put on an event to get actual real numbers. Otherwise you get hugely inflated attendance figures.

It's horrying but alas well within the range of possibilities. If the median Birkett Ratio is now 0.1 (according to Carless) for games with >25K WL, that =3500 week 1 sales. It can easily be 0.01 OR 1.0. I've seen both extremes quite a few times.
