The fact that watching G5 "contenders" getting blown out isn't as entertaining as people expected just gives ESPN ammunition. But if we aren't giving G5 teams a chance, then we should just scrap the whole expanded playoff entirely!

And guess who's going to get their way? (Hint: It starts with an E and ends with -SPN.)

But for TV networks it's the other way around---they hate the G5 teams, and love the idea of a bunch of 3-loss SEC teams playing for a chance at an undeserved national championship!

For everyone but TV networks, G5 teams having the opportunity to play their way into a championship is the positive case for the expanded playoff. The other main effect---regular season games not mattering because bluebloods get infinite mulligans---is terrible!

Football would be better if this play didn't count (according to Whiny Sean McVay).

Whiny Sean McVay loses one (1) game and decides to ban the hook-and-lateral.

McVay thinks backward passes should be treated the same as fumbles in key moments.

My guess is that he actually has no idea what rule should be different, and if/when he sits down to actually think about it he'll realize that. He's just being whiny! But someone who /sits on the Competition Committee/ shouldn't go around making whiny comments about hypothetical rule changes.

Maybe interceptions shouldn't count as long as the QB doesn't /intend/ to throw the ball to a receiver.

oh man another very identifying moment: “Hell yeah my team are leading by double digits in the 4th so for once I’ll watch this extremely significant game in spite of myself - no fuck the opposition’s scored 3, I’m walking out”

Good videogames are for *talking about with your friends in a bar afterwards*, not for playing with your friends. Multiplayer games are for teenagers.

And the Diaz contract makes Ford-for-Ferrar much more understandable.

Using Steamer projections and dropping 0.5 WAR each year after 30:

_Naylor_
2.4
2.4
1.9
1.4
0.9
Total: 9 WAR for $92M

_Alonso_
2.3
1.8
1.3
0.8
0.3
Total: 6.5 WAR for $155M

I know which one I’d rather have.

I honestly thought Naylor was a minor overpay, but if this is the free agent market for 1B…

Josh Naylor has comparable 2026 projections to Pete Alonso, is 5 years younger, and is making $11 million less per year. 😍

I hate the 12-team playoff so much.
