A fire for the men of the Edmund Fitzgerald, swallowed by the cold waters of Lake Superior.

Stayed at a cabin on the Bayfield Peninsula last year and they casually had this life jacket on display (it had been swapped out at some point before the final voyage). #EdmundFitzgerald

Here's one of several maps I made last year tracing the journey of Daniel Greysolon, Sieur du Luth, one of the first white people to visit what's now Minnesota, in 1679-1680. www.stcroix360.com/2024/12/hist... #30DayMapChallenge

I missed a couple days of the #30DayMapChallenge but it was seriously because I was working on a big map project and reading academic articles about deep mapping. Anyway here's one of my favorite places.

Keeping it simple with my second map of #30DayMapChallenge. My favorite linear landscape features: rivers.

Sneaking in under the wire with my first map of #30DayMapChallenge. Ugly, mostly thinking about themes for the month.

A one paragraph bio that is pretty accurate to what I know. I have quite a bit of Morgan May stuff I'm happy to share. What's your interest?

Getting ready to embark on a river voyage of film and music with my friends at the Square Lake Festival, the Cactus Blossoms, and the kickoff of a St. Croix River film contest.

New cell tower in Marine on St Croix visible from a long stretch of river. It's needed for the town and the banks are already lined by houses on that side, so I can't get super worked up. But it's another blemish. And certainly not great for the many birds that migrate up and down the river.

The Stillwater bridge sure catches the evening light in a lovely way.

Summer fading to fall on the upper St. Croix River.

Took my boy to see American lotus flowers on the only lake around here where they grow. A little past their prime but still beautiful.

In the deep woods a half mile from my house, a bear was doing bear things. I can smell this photo and it's bad.

A sweaty afternoon hike through humid air with grasshoppers parting before me like water in front of a ship.

Bogs are glorious. Squishy sphagnum moss sometimes makes it possible to walk on water. So many plants species to see. Lost worlds where people rarely tread and the wildlife still rule.

Went to the annual Wild Rice Powwow in Danbury, Wis. today. New arena at a place where such ceremonies have been happening for hundreds of years if not longer.
