I grow things. Always have, always will. Currently growing and breeding mainly tomatoes, corn and apples way up north with a bunch of cats, dogs and geese. Also pottery & poetry often fall out of me. Neither my brain nor body obey cultural norms. 🇨🇦
Sometimes we all need a snuggle.

Garden season definitely over, pottery season begins again. Reskilling by throwing a bunch of agateware for a studio fundraiser. This new handle shape is excellent.

Got some bell beaker and double bump mugs coming along. Coming back after a summer of gardening, slowly.

Hard to photograph the rainbow mugs,I guess they want a video and spinning.

Clay is M370. Shape is 14th century inspired.

Too unwell to get out of bed today except for the bathroom. My cats were helping me rest but they went outside for a break. The air coming in the windows smells like it's going to rain.

The first 18 jars/7 roosters. Stewed then pressure canned

Every moment today is a prayer: let everyone have this abundance. Let all regimes complicit in starving people crumble. Let everyone live and heal

I've been ultra overcapacity, and will continue to be next week. Last week was drs appts, this week was loading the roostermobile for butcher, next week is animals to the vet. I'm very lucky Siri is there to keep me in bed otherwise. It would be lonely and awful otherwise.

Been having serious trouble cognitively so no alt text, so no pictures. Sigh.

Scouring cotton shirts (white cotton really is as gross as they say), picking scentless chamomile flowers, and simmering them. Then tannin and alum, then dyeing.

I like working with linen way better but this was an experiment.

I'm always very grateful to my past self for making crates exciting snack sources for several weeks a year kinda randomly. It makes getting the cats to the vet so much easier, they line up to go in. Except Demon, who's a problem.

I have a second slime mold!

It's neat when new creatures come to live here. Especially when they're an indicator of some middle stages of biomass breakdown.

#FungusID please?

I'm going to call this row of winter wheat a success and plant some more.

Trellises slowly going up. It's very hard on my body but hopefully they stay there once they're in. 7 for tomatoes, 2 for actinidia kolomikta. Concrete reinforcing wire or cattle panels plus t-posts.

I may have dislocated my pinkie slightly.

When I moved here, the first summer the yard was full of clover and the scent of its flowers filled the air. My geese pick the flowers off and mow it short, so one gardening goal was to return areas of clover to the property

Success

More garden pictures: the wild columbine is starting, the aspen borers progress, somehow the birds didn't eat all my sweet ciciley and it's about to flower-- but as you see they loved the borage right beside it. Apparently the ducks are the only animal that can kill borage.

Puppies playing, my pineappleweed lawn, and the river of chives (geese don't eat chives).

Everyone likes my winter wheat.

After yesterday's rain I can feel plants drinking deep. Spring moves on, from crabapple and saskatoons to lilacs and roses

Moisture brought rust, it'll be on saskatoons as well as roses. Not sure where the juniper alt host is. Or can hedging cedar host?

Time to have greens in oyster sauce

Planted corn yesterday into dry dust, set up irrigation, and we got a blessed, soaking rain

This is my first year with sweet corn, pre-sprouted to quicken the season, covered in anti-crow cloth (they pull up all the seedlings). Siri helped chase bugs

Super mix of 🌽 to start

Wildfire smoke is blowing our way today. I should not have been outside as much as I was, and yet it's beautiful out there. First rose!

Peppers going in: sweet peppers yesterday, hopefully hot peppers today. Cats are always helping. Especially Little Bear with the catnip 😂

Solly lying in the freshly tilled field before and after I started planting around her. She did not move. You'd hardly think she could chase off bears

I got a couple rows of tomatoes in. Almost done tomatoes, then peppers 🌱🐶

I feel bad killing plants to eat them, but lambs quarters spanakopita is delightful and greens and an egg do amazing things to a ramen brick

Then an evening watching mixed herds of dinosaurs graze while other dinosaurs swoop singing through the air 🌱 🦕 🍜 🪿
