@npr.org have there been any reports comparing this shutdown with the other shutdown that also went longer than 1 month? I’m curious what happened with snap benefits back then?
November 6, 2025 at 2:11 PM
I’ve seen many news reports talking about how this is the 2nd longest shutdown in history without mentioning who was president during the actual longest shutdown. Seems relevant. Also, since that one also spanned more than 1 month, what happened with SNAP benefits back then? Journos, do your job!

Why aren’t the people who enthusiastically voted for Trump because he promised mass deportations asking for ICE to come to their communities?

Using our own military against US citizens and giving huge tax cuts to the wealthy while making lower income people pay twice as much for healthcare is not ruining our country at all. Thank goodness we have those things and not more windmills!
Trump: "If we didn't win this election. If we had these people that were running that were ruining our country, destroying our country with their open borders and men playing in women's sports and transgender from everybody and windmills all over the place ... I'm not sure we'd even have a country."

@cgrisales.bsky.social on morning edition today, you said republicans need democratic votes to pass the CR, but isn’t it true that republicans could change the rules to only need a simple majority? You should do better to make the situation clear. Republicans clearly want to shut down the government

Dear @apnews.com

The republicans control congress. Democrats did not vote down anything. If the GOP wanted to fund the government, they could have changed the rules to pass a CR with a simple majority like they did 11 days ago to approve 48 trump appointees at once.

Fix your headline.

Sooo tired of Dem messaging on this! Why are they asking for the blame? If republicans wanted to keep the government open, they could do so without a single dem vote! Why should Dems vote against their own constituents wishes just to save the republicans?

@jsummers.bsky.social I heard your segment abt the shutdown today, and was dismayed at how the messaging was portrayed. Isn’t it true that republicans could pass the CR without any democratic votes if they wanted? Republicans want a shutdown because they know the media will spin in their favor.

The weirdest thing about Trump deploying the National Guard to the Nation's Capital is that he still hasn't released the Epstein files despite campaigning on that pledge, probably because he's directly complicit in a massive sex trafficking operation that targeted children.

I’m glad to see polling show their policies are very unpopular, and we can predict an electoral disaster for the GOP until the cows come home, but if that really does happen, Trump will just declare the election to be illegitimate. That’s what worries me the most!
