That quote about heroism gets at why publicly shaming them can be really effective, and I think about this a lot -- most people get into these kinds of jobs specifically bc they believe people will gush over them and shower them with honor

I've seen this expectation in a lot of American left spaces that secularists have to put up with spiritualism etc for recruitment / retention / big tent purposes, but never the other way around -- even though it probably turns off just as many as it attracts

They’re not really PhD students, or if they are they invent things. This guy found a couple who seem determined to be victims of AI shaming, which is interesting in itself, but I’ve seen others whose whole deal is productivity but their tips are bad and clearly not from a recent student.

Yes, and I resent that it has made me develop this habit of having to list a half dozen prefatory "to be sures" and not-really-anyone's-business biographical data before weighing in on anything bc no one can take anything in good faith anymore
