Anyway, it’s the Magnificent Mile, and the president is a loon — but of course, we all know both of these things.

Hell — I even jogged 6 blocks from my hotel at almost 10 at night to grab a torta at Xoco, and somehow escaped with my blood unspilled. (The sandwich, as ever, was f’ing delicious.)

It was the future of the airport experience … once. Kind of like if Epcot Center had its very own flight terminal.

Here’s the story by itself.
Again: either he’s a terrible leader b/c he can’t hold his caucus, a terrible leader b/c he can’t communicate in a way that reflects tensions within the caucus, or a terrible leader b/c he feeds the public fairy tales.
Those are the options. None flatter him.

Scoop: Schumer privately fought to extend government shutdown
"We let him know what we were doing," said Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.).

Exactly, and there’s a bumper affixed to the terminal to ensure a gentle end to the ride. Not sure what went awry here.

Right — they can be guided to it. But the work has to be done by the person themselves, ultimately.

Right. They're devaluing themselves and their humanity, but there's no way for someone to _make_ another person stop doing that.

Oh, I absolutely think he's just wrong — Occam's razor and all that. Consistent wrongness can become so infuriating that one looks for other causes, but sometimes people's instincts grow a thick coat of rust.

Yep.
I think the correct dimension to categorize Democrats isn't liberal to moderate, but those who think elected office is for the exercise of power and those who think elected office is your just reward after climbing the career ladder and waiting your turn.
Shaheen: "We've heard from a number of our colleagues on the other side of the aisle that they're willing to come to the table, they're willing to work with us once the govt is open to get this done. We've heard the same thing from the White House. So now we'll see if they're really gonna work w/us"

You're perceiving the situation properly; it makes little sense to either activists or left-ish veterans of working in Washington.

(Not saying the above in disagreement with anybody! Just noting that the problem with the Senate Dem caucus evidently runs pretty deep.)

Yeah, that's the thing. Schumer has survived this long as leader because the majority of the caucus wants his brand of leadership. If senators wanted something more combative, Warren or Van Hollen or even Chris Murphy have been right there; there's a reason they're still loitering in the wings.;
