I was amazed about how little of their collection was properly catalogued. I'd thought of it as some global repository of information when it's mostly just a lot of boxes of stuff, like an abandoned house move.

Remembrance Sunday is becoming flag-shagger Christmas. I used to attend the service every year as a child in Cubs and Scouts. It always felt solemn and dignified. We seem to be going beyond that into something competitive, vulgar and showy.

This. A similar picture for my family, beyond a few generations back they were illiterate, didn't have the vote, didn't own property (my dad was the first to own his own house) and worked hard, dangerous jobs. They were just very lowly cogs in a vast machine they didn't build and couldn't change.
