Monroe has always been written and performed with such a care for balance. He has the potential to be truly violent but chooses to practice compassion and kindness. If that's not an allegory for succeeding in overcoming toxic masculinity, I don't know what is. They gave the character depth (helped majorly by the actor's ability to inspire depth) and opportunities to have emotions (including anger) and be able to regulate those emotions and learn from them. In addition, the man's wardrobe is just perfect. Seriously. I want to shrink down everything he wears and own it. Promotional picture of Alan Tudyk as Wash in Firefly. He's sitting at the controls of Serenity in his orange jumpsuit, a toy dinosaur in the background. Joss was known for his comic reliefs. (Joss was known for...a lot of things.) Alan Tudyk always brings unexpected depth to his comedic roles, portraying them with honesty which makes them funnier but also more poignant. Wash was no different. Wash was allowed emotion and to be in a relationship where his female partner was allowed complete autonomy and respect. Seeing that sort of relationship onscreen was so great. A professional photo of Doug Jones, an actor who has done most of his work under prosthetics as creatures. His arms are surrounding him, hands crossed at the elbows and coming up to either side of his head. He's staring at the camera/viewer with wide blue eyes. The tones of the picture are blues and greens, broken by the light peach tone of his skin. I don't know the credit, so if anyone does, please tell me. I know this isn't a character, but a person. That being said, knowing Dougie and seeing him interact with people has given me a much broader understanding of how masculinity can be expressed. The way he leads in love and compassion is something I want to express, and to see it expressed as a masculine trait gives me all the more reason to incorporate it (and how to incorporate it) into who I am. He married all the concepts of whom the doctor was and gave him depth and compassion in a way the previous doctors, who were all a little bit more aloof and novel, never had. He had passion and compassion and hurt and pain and love all wrapped up in this spastic dude who just wanted things to be okay. I have a lot of choices out there if I think about it for role models for healthy masculinity, but this dude was played in such an earnest way that I can't leave him behind as a role model, conscious or not, of what healthy masculinity can look like.

This is important to mention because if you cannot see it clearly to ascertain if it does in fact look like a scrotum, you need to know it's possible it does. But it's not. Two crows drawn with alcohol marker and ink on paper in a floating gold frame. This is the "Love of a Murder series: Collared and White-billed". Each crow is on a branch. The top crow is facing left toward a gold-toned bottle cap glued to the frame, decorated with a golden heart on it and an indention to represent a beak holding it. It has a black beak and a white patch of feathers around its neck. The bottom crow is yelling, orange beak opened wide, toward another gold-toned cap glued to the frame, with a golden heart painted on it and a purposeful indent on the side. The rest of it, aside from its beak, is black. This is the second artwork in "Love of a Murder" it's the "Slender-billed" crow. This crow appears to be on a concrete post facing left toward a gold-toned cap glued to the frame. Unlike the previous picture, this is in landscape, the floating frame hanging sideways. The gold-toned bottle cap is dented in the middle and painted with a small golden heart. The crow looks like it's screaming for you to pick up the gift it left you. This is the bottom-most art. Unlike the top two, this artwork is not in a floating frame, but in a painted gold frame with a white matte framing the black paper and white color pencil of the crow bust in profile. The bottle cap on the frame is not gold, but black. It has a golden heart painted in the middle of it. It's attached to a golden bowed ribbon placed in the bottom-most middle part of the frame. The crow, for what the crappy picture can show, seems to be looking toward the viewer expectantly, but calmly, with its brown eye. This is a Northwestern crow in the "Love of a Murder" series.

My 3 works I submitted to the gallery show. They're all in gold frames as the theme was "gaudy gold frames". They hang one under the other on a chain in a row. The first frame has two crows. The second has one crow. The third has the bust of a crow drawn on black paper which is very hard to see. More details explained in thread on the individual pictures. My face, white nonbinary person, smiling slightly while wearing my oversized tortoise shell and gold filigree glasses. My hair is braided in two braids on either side. I'm wearing a brown striped button-up. On one lapel is a pin saying "Please Use they/them pronouns." On the other side, my hand is holding the lapel with a gold maple leaf pin on it. I also have on an anatomical heart necklace holding the ashes of my mom.

Helbros brand ladies watch. Very small marquise-shaped bezel and crystal. Gold-toned with decorative border around the crystal. Small settings for very tiny possible diamonds on top and bottom. Mechanical winding watch. Speidel flexible gold-toned band. Displayed across my hand. Old United States flag pin. Yellowed with age. I'm holding it between my fingers. A pair of silver cuff links. They are squarish, sides curving in between each point. They have embossed decor with filigree-like designs contrasted with lines like stripes, a rectangular center, and a border. Weathered belt buckle from the 70s. Decorated as if stamped into the metal material. The letters "LMS" are in the center of the oval buckle, with a line boarder around the letters. On the outside boarder it reads "LAFOLLETTE MINE SUPPLY" on top and "LAFOLLETTE, TENN." on the bottom with another line boarder at the edge of the buckle.

Had to quickly learn how to wire hang a frame yesterday morning for my first real studio show.

Stressful as hell, but at least I finally got to use THIS beast!

I spent the evening watching Resident Alien with my beautiful "squash" @tarasemperger.bsky.social.
Stanley brand hand-crank drill. It sort of looks like a hand mixer with a similar crank function, except there's a drill bit adapter at one end and a large black handle at the other, the crank being a red circular contraption with another handle for turning at the center. The drill bit adapter can change sizes the same way an electric drill can, except you manually turn it.

Got this delightful 1970s "Country Gentleman" mechanical winding #PocketWatch from #Westclox for $18 from a thrift store.

Though it looks fancy, it's not by any means actually expensively made. But the ticking it makes is delightful, and it seems to keep pretty decent time!

In the middle of the dial it's easy to make out the company name "WESTCLOX" in faux metallic embossing along with other "embossed" designs across the face of the watch. The watch has a large golden winder at the top and a loop which attaches to a segmented golden fob. The hands on the dials are black. A glare shines off of the hard plastic "crystal".

Obligatory snow pictures taken yesterday after clearing off my car (and placing the thing I bought to put on my windshield to prevent having to clear off my windshield after I should've put it on because I am Very Good At Things).

The footprints trail off into the snow below and around the steps. Icicles dangling daintily from the top gutters of the corner of my apartment complex. The limbs of trees frame the blue and white splotched sky behind and beside the corner of the gutters. Barely seen is a small coating of snow at the top of the gutters. A tableau of the backside view from my apartment building. The ground is covered in snow with a scattering of naked trees in the fore and middle grounds with a mailbox building and cars parked in the near background and the main street and a line of denser trees against a pale sky in the furthest background. Little clearings of sidewalk can be seen barely through the coating of snow.

I'm going to be doing laundry today but first I need to finish my job as a cat bed.

The shifts are long but the benefits are stellar.

I was gifted a (non-working) regulator clock at an antique's store.

I found both books I wanted at a used book store and they were the only ones they had on clock repair.

I'm waiting for the part where it gets too hard.
A book called "Clock Repairing as a Hobby: an illustrated how-go guide for the beginner by Harold C. Kelly. What is referred to as a "regulator" clock. It is a drop down octagonal design meaning that the wooden case the clock is in is a octagonal shaped frame with a drop down leaf on the bottom where the pendulum would hang behind a little door. On this clock the glass that would show the pendulum behind it has the word "Regulator" painted on in fancy font framing the shape of the dropped down leaf. The clock face is behind a circular domed glass door framed in a metal band. The numerals are roman and the minute numerals on the outside of the roman ones are arabic. The clock dial has two winding arbors, one for winding the time and one for winding the striking mechanism (which makes the clock chime at each out and half hour if the clock was working). The brand is Verichron but it isn't easy to make out as the hands are blocking the writing on the dial. This is what's referred to as an Anniversary Clock. The reason is because, when working right, the wind lasts for around 400 days and is rewound once a year, thus is being the anniversary of its last wind. Visually, this clock is underneath a glass dome. It has a gold dials with roman numbering, each number in black and backed in white which is a nice contrast to the ornate golden dial. It has small black hands which also stand out pretty nice against the background of the dial. It is on a stand inside the dome with a pendulum that rotates instead of swings back and forth. The pendulum has four weighted balls and would rotate around and then around the other way to drive the clock. The base of the clock which the glass dome sits on is round also gold and the feet are tiny adjustable gear shapes. On the dial of the clock is a small area inscribed "Seth Thomas" who is the creator of the clock. It isn't easy to read from the picture.

#Crowvember Day 30: Crow-sona

I wasn't sure what I was going to do for my Crow-sona. I've felt pretty puny today. No references so I just tried to remember what I knew about crow anatomy and faked the rest. It turned out being a crow I'd like to meet and have coffee with. I want this crow's life.🪶
Art of a anthropomorphized crow. It's done in alcohol marker and lined/added dimension with ink. This crow represents me so it has qualities that define me. It's wearing an oversized green cardigan with bit brown and yellow buttons. Beneath the cardigan it's wearing a lavender shirt with purple stripes. It's wearing gold glasses and has a brown eye. Instead of being smooth feathers at the top of its head it has large curls that mimic my hair texture. It's standing a bit haughtily, one wing on its hip and the other holding a coffee much that has steam tendrils trailing up. On the coffee mug is written "Coffee make s me poop." It's legs are long and scaled with talons at the end of each toe. It looks like a pleasant creature. Something I would aspire to be. This is the same art except that it's obvious it's on a spiral sketchpad. I've included in the picture on the left side the coffee much that inspired the one the crow is holding in the background. "Coffee makes me poop" is clear in white letters against a dark brown mug just behind and to the left of the picture of my art. This experience of doing art has taught me a lot about different mediums and kept me focused enough to create. The work is signed "Finn" "EMG" "Crow-sona" "11/30/23"

#Crowvember Day 29: Palm Crow

Alcohol marker and ink.

Tomorrow is "Crowsona" (which I've completely made up). What would I look like as a crow? Or part crow? I've been watching Grimm so it might be a Crow Wesen. Or it could be a wee cartoon of a crow-like me! It'll be a surprise! To me, too!
