Westerners translate “天命” as “Mandate of Heaven” and interpret it like being anointed by the gods, but “天” is less like Jesus or Zeus, and more like “everything working together like it should”. In today's English the closest usage to “天命” is probably “state capacity”. I'm your neighbor in Tennessee trying to preach the same as you and my God this is exhausting. I am so tired of people shitting all over the south when they can't be bothered to amplify the voices of those on the ground fighting shit like this or the marginalized people that call this part of the country home. Speaking as an Appalachian, negative stereotypes have been used to justify atrocities committed against this region at the hands of big coal for over 100 years and we have no voice in mainstream American discourse at all. We're completely invisible, just like poor rural black communities in the Deep South who are suffering from the sewage infrastructure crisis. Those people have been completely erased by the stereotype of southerners as being nothing but a bunch of white racists. People in blue states have no fucking idea how dangerous the "Trump Country" narrative is to the people living in it. It's just using negative stereotypes to justify fucked up shit and instead of helping the people affected they turn around and tell them they're just getting what they voted for. Like y'all realize this shit happens cuz shitty rich people bought our states and we're too poor to fight back, right? Maybe lend us a fucking hand instead of cracking unoriginal and outrageously classist incest jokes? Smdh

Youth should be radical. Youth should demand change in the world. Youth should not accept the old order if the world is to move on. There must be clash and if youth hasn't enough force or fervor to produce the clash the world grows stale and stagnant and sour in decay. If our colleges and universities do not breed men who riot, who rebel, who attack life with all their youthful vim and vigor, then there is something wrong with our colleges. A: We never really got the chance to fully figure it out but the talk in the writers room was that Earl Jr’s Dad was going to be someone famous. Like Dave Chappelle or Lil John. Someone that came to town on tour and Joy slept with. But when we got canceled we never got the chance to figure it out. I was worried about doing a cliffhanger but I asked NBC if it was safe to do one at the end of the season and they told me it was. I guess it wasn’t. I had always had an ending to Earl and I’m sorry I didn’t get the chance to see it happen. You’ve got a show about a guy with a list so not seeing him finish it is a bummer. But the truth is, he wasn’t ever going to finish the list. The basic idea of the ending was that while he was stuck on a really hard list item he was going to start to get frustrated that he was never going to finish it. Then he runs into someone who had a list of their own and Earl was on it. They needed to make up for something bad they had done to Earl. He asks them where they got the idea of making a list and they tell him that someone came to them with a list and that person got the idea from someone else. Earl eventually realizes that his list started a chain reaction of people with list and that he’s finally put more good into the world than bad. So at that point he was going to tear up his list and go live his life. Walk into the sunset a free man. With good karma.
