Make the Goddamn meal and put it in your Free Fridge. Write the $100 check to the food bank. Ask your local school what they need for the kids and then go about trying to get that stuff.... Do these things regularly and you are making meaningful contributions to your communities.

Have you ever tried finding a Louisiana sugarcane agronomist willing to testify in court AGAINST THE BANKS & SUGARCANE MILL that employ their entire sector? In defense of a Black family?

I had to dig up a guy so retired, the banks couldn't even threaten his *children's* careers.

US farmers are saying they "just need temporary help, until things get better."

Here's the thing. US farm exports- which are mostly soy- CANNOT get better.

Other countries expanded their soy industries to fill China's demand.

We've walled ourselves out of the global market, folks. This is it.

We even have a real-life experiment that proves paying farm workers a fair wage can be done. And prices went up so little, PEOPLE DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE.

In 2005, tomato pickers in FL struck a deal with Yum! Brands (Taco Bell, KFC, & others) to guarantee higher wages.

Alas, nope.

96% of US farms are family farms.

Most of the so-called "corporate" farms are family farms. The families that own them just happen to be wealthy & have a lot of capital.

Reading Keegan's excellent book "The Face of Battle." One of the most striking parts is when he talks about how, in general, it's hard to get people to kill each other, even in a combat setting. Especially true in the modern regular soldier era where looting and kidnapping are illegal.

We have a big problem- for a big breadbasket nation, the US now grows surprisingly little food.

We're now dependent on imports for basics like potatoes, ketchup, and even peanut butter.

Reading another book that claims, as if it's obviously true, the Soviet space program was ahead of the US. I spent a lot of time reading in this, and I just see it as zombie propaganda. The only reason the USSR even had an *apparent* edge is because it became fashionable to strap humans to rockets.
