This was Mountain Flowers at the Homestead. It was opened in 1994, a Robert Walker design, and has been closed for about 8 years. The resort now directs guests to Manitou Passage, where Homestead guests receive a discount, but that doesn’t excite me. I will check out Sugarloaf next time I’m there.

This was/is Belle Isle. The 9-hole was designed in 1922 by Ernest Way, which indicates to me there was a time it might have been good. But it looked extremely rundown by the time it closed in 2008. The 6-hole short course ($10) and Toptracer range remain open today and seem like they are doing well.

This is Pine Hollow in Jackson, a 1983 design by Morris Wilson. In a contentious vote, and against the wishes of the county and the community, Leoni Township voted to rezone the property to heavy industrial. We will see if that goes forward, signaling the end of the golf course.

Oops. The biggest problem with posting across several social media sites is the number of opportunities to get distracted.

This is Wicker Hills in Hale, a 1971 design by Bill Baker & Andy Anderson. I probably should have looked back in time to see if these two nines were developed separately. The course borders Huron National Forest and peak rate is $55.

This is Fox Creek in Livonia, a 1988 design by Mark DeVries. Getting some pushback that Whispering Willows might be the better muni. They are within my 45-min drive radius, so I will have to issue a verdict someday.

Still a good option for the area.

This is the Sawmill in Saginaw, a 1997 design by John Sanford, who also did the nearby course at Apple Mountain. It peaks at $65. I played a lot of high school meets and practice rounds here, and there were just so many places that would trip me up. Maybe I would love it more if I played better.

…appears that all of the bunkers were redone at that time. I’m not sure what, if any, other parts of the plan have been acted upon yet.

This is the Lochmoor Club in Grosse Pointe Woods. It was designed in 1917 by John Sweeney in consultation with Walter Travis, with some refinement by Charles Alison in 1920. A 2015 master plan by Paul Albanese to restore much of the original design was approved by the club and it…
