I can see AI helping in science and industry. Otherwise, it's the Fourth Horseman of the Enshittification of Everything. And, of course, politicians are its cringing squire.
Keir Starmer, "AI is going to be transformative for the better in art, culture, industry, government, public services.. Not ten years but five"

"Getting the balance right between the potential of AI and the protection of copyright"

In 1970 the UK and Norway were roughly equal, almost no debt, and owned all their Public Services.

Now the UK owns nothing and has £3tn of debt.

While Norway still owns everything and has the equivilant per person of £10tn.

That's how privatisation 'works'.

After using the fairly decent public transport around London, it's touching to find EMR preparing me mentally for my return to the north of England with out-of-use toilets and cancelled seat reservations and half the too-short train service given over to First Class.

Dartmoor visitor centre to close as National Park Authority cannot afford to renew lease from Duchy

National Parks are facing 12% budget cuts - not a great way for Labour to celebrate the 75th anniversary of their creation

& why is Duchy charging at all?

Netflix - please stop minimising the end credits of movies to suggest something else. Let viewers enjoy the soundtrack and see the cast and crew that worked on the film. We'll exit it ourselves when ready to.

For the purists, here's a video of all lunar phases in 2025 with no labeling. It takes about 5 minutes to watch the full thing -- and what a sweet, meditative 5 minutes it is.

One for the hairs on the back of your neck. Bowie with Arcade Fire singing ’Wake up’. The expression in his voice has he sings. Just wonderful. Saw AF at the Leadmill. Best gig of my life. Alas never saw Bowie ❤️

Ridiculous BBC headline:
"Public sector pay deals help drive up UK borrowing".

Nothing to do with corporate welfare, contracts for cronies, Govt paying higher energy bills, HMRC not collecting £500bn since 2010, Tory legacy.

Just blame workers wanting decent pay.

Borrowing was £17.4bn last month, the second highest October figure since monthly records began in 1993.

How privatisation works (and Thames Water is just the latest example).
1. A government takes a national asset built up with taxpayers' money and the work of public servants over many years, and hands it, for a fraction of its value, to a private company.
2. In doing so, it creates a monopoly.

An inconvenient truth for Labour:
NHS privatisation is entirely un-evidence based and the public has never agreed to it.

All evidence, in fact, is that privatisation is:
1) more expensive for taxpayers, and
2) has worse outcomes for patients

Simple fact:

If we use public money to pay for private firms to provide healthcare, not all of that money goes to patients since some goes to profits.

If we use public money to pay for public NHS care, ALL the money goes to patients.

Dear Keir Starmer, if you really don’t agree with a publicly funded, publicly delivered, publicly accountable, NHS - as the evidence of your appointments of Streeting and Milburn show - at least be honest with us.

After 14 years of lies from Tories, we have had enough deceit.

The BBC in particular could improve things dramatically by:

1) Not continually platforming thinktanks unless it says who funds them

2) Not putting up someone with a 0.1% view against someone with a 99.9% view as “balance”

3) Not parroting what govt says without fact checking and providing context

I benefitted. My parents got a council flat. Bizarrely, the person who arranged it was their new MP, Margaret Thatcher. On 13 June 1960, she wrote to tell my dad, scrawling in fountain pen across the typed letter: “This is my fastest success as MP!”
