Plus! In the books Victor has a loving family and his mother came from poverty and because of this she does a lot of charity work prior to her death. Which makes it especially egregious that Victor immediately abandons his disfigured “child” (metaphorical bastard). And that his monster is

And the whole reason the family was impoverished in the books was because they helped a man escape from prison. The man had not committed any crimes, but was imprisoned for critiquing the government.

They then had to flee the country for breaking him out.

I even love romantasy and the film still disappointed me in that regard with how brief and forced that element was.

And what is this critique of society replaced with? An overemphasized Elektra complex as Victor Frankenstein drinks milk constantly throughout the movie.

There is almost nothing resembling the actual plot of the book in the film (though I don’t mind the removal of the old timey racism).

In the book, Frankenstein’s monster talks about how from observing the impoverished family who’s shed he was hiding out in he came to learn that the world was made of two kinds of men. Men who were rich and of noble blood and men who weren’t and were thus forced to spend their lives slaving away
