A naval officer writing this essay makes me think of the development story of Nebulous: Fleet Command; though of course Children of a Dead Earth is closer in terms of the portrayal of distance and velocity.

The Steam Machine is kinda a throwback to stuff like the original Nintendo Famicom that could be used as both a game console and a PC.

The Impossible Planet/Satan Pit duology is a better Doom movie than either of the official Doom movies.

Not all Klingons would get along with a Yautja, but I think Captain Klaa definitely would.

Slightly annoyed when I see people use the “Look at you hacker” quote with the System Shock 2 protagonist.

Sorry, but The Hacker did not fight for their life to save the Earth (from a problem they caused) just to be mistaken for Goggles the Sailor Man.

Who do you think was the better recurring human scientist villain in a transforming robot show, Zebediah Braxis from The Challenge of the Go-Bots, or Dr. Archevil from The TransFormers?

Packard are fascinating because when they existed they were like an American Rolls-Royce. Both in terms of making ultra-posh luxury cars, and in terms of making WWII airplane engines.

Love early 3D PC games where they saved on memory by making the gameplay take up a tiny area of the screen and filling the rest with like your inventory and stuff.

Got the DS9 box set a couple years ago, one of the big issues it has is that the clips holding the disks in those big clamshell cases are absurdly tight. Feels like you’re cracking the disks trying to get them out.

I doubt there was a direct chain of influence, but it’s interesting how many similarities there are between The Vision of Escaflowne and Final Fantasy VI.

Medieval-seeming world with anachronistic advanced technology, and the evil empire the most openly industrial faction.

I think the best humanoid “real robot” mech designs aren’t in Gundam, Macross, VOTOMS, Dougram, Battletech, or Code Geass. They’re in Patlabor.
