Every fall we pick “drops” from a local orchard = sooo much cheaper! And so far this year we’ve made:
12 gallons of cider
9 quarts of applesauce
1 large apple pie
1- 4 trays of dried apples in the dehydrator
And we still have a sink left of apples to process!

So far today we have baked banana bread and an apple pie! This plus the movies we picked from the library for the long weekend- are bringing me joy and lowering my blood pressure 😅

Our peach tree is dropping peaches! So I made a crumble today. Here’s our SUPER simple recipe:
1c flour, 1cup white sugar, mix with one egg- sprinkle crumble over any fruit. Then melt one stick of butter and pour over the crumble. Bake at 350/375 for 50-60 mins

She’s got a gnarly set of stitches and the cone of shame… it’s going to be a tricky two weeks to keep it healing right, but I’m glad the surgery went well

Called around and managed to find some baby chicks. We got 6- to add to our flock of 7 when they’re ready. This will ensure we have some eggs and fresh layers this winter

I’ve been solo parenting for the past three weeks as my husband went to Alaska to help his mom (after his dad unexpectedly passed in January)
He road tripped down the ALCAN highway in his dads car- & then across the country with his mom. They get in late tonight & we’ve been getting ready for them

Spent a good part of the day building a rain catch system for our chicken coop. Took about three trips to the hardware store. But I’m excited for this new and improved watering system for our chickens.

Started growing lettuce from the ends this month. Pretty fun and nice to see something green growing when spring is a bit late here in #maine
