So BA.3.2 has been circulating in a community somewhere, undetected, for over 4 months - a long chain of infections.
Presumably just hanging on, at a low frequency.
Still, implies some ability to infect, in the current environment.

So this BA.3 (now designated BA.3.2) had not reappeared since I posted this thread... until today, when a BA.3.2 showed up in the Netherlands—the first detection outside of South Africa.

April 2 collection date. BA.3 ain't dead yet. 1/7
Do you remember BA.3—the weakling cousin of BA.1 & BA.2 that seemed to take the worst from each & had weaker ACE2 binding than even the ancestral Wuhan Virus?

After three years, BA.3 is back.

And it is transmitting.

Who saw this coming?

🚨I promised I'd say more on the Royal Society and Elon Musk, so here it is. 🚨

I've resigned my position as Associate Editor at Royal Society's journal Open Science in protest at their lack of action over Elon Musk.

Elon Musk is a proven danger to good science, but the Royal Society won’t say so. That’s why I resigned | Kit Yates
It is vital to act, and I urge colleagues to do so. How can we stand by and laud this man while he undermines scientific integrity? asks academic and author Kit Yates

I've visited six hospitals this week.
I've actually seen more people in masks than I have in 18 months.

But most of the masks have been ones that aren't designed to protect against spread of airborne disease. They're not the solution.

We need to use the right tools for the job.

For now we’ll take this big win.

BA.2.2 popped up in Hong Kong at the start of November?

A variant that hasn't been since in 23 months.

Is any variant ever truly gone. 😕

The DeFLuQE variants remain dominant, but growth appears to have stalled.

BUT DOESN'T MENTION INFECTION, let alone the infections that are famous for causing inflammation.

What an absolute joke of an article.

Sound advice
Please don't let the growing potential of a bird flu pandemic distract you from the fact that we are still in the covid pandemic.

And repeat covid infections increase your risk of long term health problems. Serious ones.
