I mean yeah I suppose you could argue that’s similar. But not all abilities require hope in DH whereas in E33 everything costs AP. Hope feels more like something you will hoard then spend while AP is just your basic resource. It’s an interesting thought nonetheless.

The Grick only had 3 hp left so there was still a chance with two d8s for the spell that the psychic rolled two ones. We had him roll and all held our breath as they showed up as a 12!! I decided that since I didn’t factor in that unique bonus it was ok to retcon this once. What an insane wild ride!

The next turn the Grick brought him down and I officially declared it a TPK. We were all devastated and in shock. But as we talked about what we could have done different one of the players (who else but quasit?) pointed out the +1 buff they got from the shrine upstairs hadn’t been factored in

The players all knew the psychic couldn’t survive another round with this thing so it all came down to this last roll. It has an AC of 19 and…the psychic rolled an 18 x.x. Used a hero point…and it was even worse.

Suffice to say things were looking bad. First the Druid goes down and then the champion, leaving just the psychic to go mono-a-mono with this thing. The psychic managed to do some serious damage to the Grick until it had only 3 hp. The Grick somehow managed to miss all its attacks

Two of the players are brand new to pf2 and they just leveled up to level 2. At the beginning of the dungeon there is a level 3 Grick. This is considered a moderate encounter for their level. Problem was my players were rolling like dog water while I got three nat 19s on three separate turns
