Addendum: Inge Storheill was also the younger brother of Skule Storheill, the legendary hard-as-nails skipper of the Norwegian destroyer Stord, that participated in the sinking of the German battleship Scharnhorst in 1943.

In this capacity he joined the fight against Japan, and as wingman to Hammy Gray witnessed his VC action. Only day after, his luck ran out, taking a hit to the oil cooler. He managed to nurse his Corsair out to sea, ditching near the American carrier Yorktown, and was picked up by a US destroyer

This created a bit of a conundrum, as Norway was not officially at war with Japan. Sitting out the deployment was out of the question however, and as a solution he received a temporary one year leave from the Royal Norwegian Navy and was 'loaned' to the Fleet Air Arm, wearing a Royal Navy uniform

A sailor when the war broke out, he survived the torpedoing of his ship in June 1940 and made his way to the UK, eventually going to Canada to receive flight training. He subsequently flew maritime patrol aircraft with the Norwegian 330 Squadron in Iceland and Walrus floatplanes on board HMS Anson.

Interestingly, his wingman on this faithful mission was a peculiar one. Ensign Inge Storheill of the Royal Norwegian Navy was on loan to the Fleet Air Arm, and was the only member of the Norwegian armed forces to fight the Japanese in WW2.
