On Aug. 16, 1933, an antisemitic group waved a swastika banner during a baseball game featuring a team made up of Jewish-Canadians in Toronto.

In 1891, the first bridge to cross Halifax Harbour was destroyed in a storm.
Two years later, the second bridge collapsed due to sea worms.
Rumours spread of a curse on the harbour.
For the third bridge, Halifax decided to leave nothing to chance.

Edwin Baker, the co-founder of the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, died. Blinded during the First World War, he served as the Managing Director and General Secretary of the CNIB from 1920 to 1962.

Father of Confederation and Member of Parliament Thomas D'Arcy McGee was assassinated by a member of the Fenian Brotherhood.
Patrick Whelan was put to death for the murder, but stated he didn't kill McGee.
