Good to see a as a report in @financialtimes.com today that Government plans practical steps to attract talented researchers to the UK (plans no doubt in hand long before I mentioned the subject)
“I think that we have half an immigration policy. We have the half that regulates entry to the country, but we don’t have the other half that goes out into the world and tries to attract talented people to pursue research and innovation careers in the UK,” says @graemetr.bsky.social

I decided to refresh my @bsky.app site with a new photo.

I chose an image of something handsome, solid and needing periodic maintenance.

I also provide a photo of the Forth Rail Bridge.

It was a pleasure to meet so many wonderful postgraduate students earlier this week at UCL's Department of Political Science and School of Public Policy. Professor David Coen kindly invited me to give a lecture.

David seems to share my impeccable sense of fashion 😀

This is an important and timely addition to the terrific work CaSE has done on public attitudes to R&D
Chair of our Discovery Decade programme, Kim Shillinglaw, has written for @resprofnews.bsky.social about how the R&D sector can use the framing of place to strengthen connections between the R&D system and the public, and what can be learned from other sectors. ✍🏼
Science city, research region: how to build R&D into local identity.

Polling shows place-based awareness and alliances can be foundations for national support, says Kim Shillinglaw.
