So depressing and infuriating reading Italian media today. Just an endless stream of "Ukraine is finished", "Zelensky is alone". Might as well publish everything on the background of a Russian flag.

Because the law is an expensive tool to use; because this means it is mostly rich people who get to use it; because rich people are usually men; the law has become a tool of the patriarchy, one which men use to impose their will on women.
In situations where the law tries to decide this for you, I hope there are people like @goodlawproject.bsky.social willing to stand up for your rights to not be property.

I stopped reading or watching Italian msm reports on Ukraine long ago. Endless stream of "Russia advancing", "how much longer can Ukraine resist?", "deadly new Russian missiles", "west tired of propping up Ukraine", "Ukraine must give up territory". Just stick a Russian flag on the page or screen.

26 September 1991 on live TV Totò Cuffaro, later Governor of Sicily, launches an attack apparently on Giovanni Falcone (he claims it was aimed at another judge). He's managed to get all videos of the episode removed from social media, except this one. He served 7 years for aiding & abetting mafia.

Italians are rightly proud of their resistance movement and the contribution it makes to the defeat of Nazi Germany. We must remember, however, that the estimated number of active partisans from September 1943 to April 1945 is just 240-250,000.
War is a complex, terrible and messy affair.
