On the left is the pre 2014 crest for Salford City FC; centre is the current crest; and on the right is the proposed new crest which keeps the lion figure (part of the city of Salford's crest) and proudly brings back the red rose of Lancashire. I'm not sure whether I'll vote for or against

When I eventually get enough money to move to somewhere with wild bears nearby I'm going to build a bear-sized swing in my garden. Maybe even a full playground just for bears

The homeowner saw on the security camera that a bear was playing on the outdoor swing every day, but couldn't get on. So he had a bigger swing built, and this was the result.

Sunday evening, nothing of interest to me on television so I decided on a YouTube app athon starting with #BigBigTrain and finishing with this lovely song by ex PFM guitarist/vocalist Franco Mussida. Incredible

Sorting through my digital photos this year and it was surprising how few I took in January. I can't remember the weather being so bad that I wasn't out more than a few days that month but here's January's Photo, the Irish Sea from Cleveleys

Four years ago I read of the sudden death of friend and vocalist with the band Big Big Train David Longdon.
Today I've just heard the news about the death of Mani of The Stone Roses and once of Primal Scream. RIP to both of these fine, talented musicians as well as being decent, down to earth guys

I can't credit the unknown photographer but I'm remembering his/her subject, the remarkably talented Mr David Longdon who suddenly and very sadly passed on this day in 2021 #DavidLongdon #bigbigtrain #progress #wildriver #doorone

Fair enough it's a 3 which isn't too unusual. But no "right letter, wrong place" diversions to muddy the waters

Well knock me down with a feather. One letter away from the perfect guess. Because that is what Wordle is in the initial stage. Depending on the luck or lack of that first guess that is when the skill element kicks in. All I had to do with this was find a middle letter

Out of curiosity and after a few years of inactivity I fired up my Instagram account yesterday and it hasn't changed at all, still plenty of 'sponsored' posts advertising tacky calendars and 'free' games to download. A lot like Facebook in fact. Meta has totally devalued social networking

It's one of those things that fills the dull Autumn evenings here in Thornton; I'm talking about my annual Bandcamp playlist of course. With a mere 47 days left before we move on a notch here is the link to what's kept my ears happy for the last 318

#19 on the reading list for 2025. I'm really unsure how to categorise this one - social history? Regional politics in historical context? Community psychoanalysis? Humour?
It's actually all four (and more) rolled into one informative, somewhat biased and frankly disturbing book. Eye-opening for sure

Currently reading Blood, Sweat and Asparagus Spears by Andrew Turvil. Ex editor of The Good Food Guide Turvil looks back at the 1990s which is widely regarded as a decade of great change to not only the UK restaurant scene but also to the British attitude of dining out. The beans have been spilled

That's another Halloween in the UK done and dusted. In another three weeks we'll be able to forget about Guy Fawkes Night (aka Bonfire Night, aka The Gunpowder Plot) until next September

Lightpool has returned to Blackpool and heralds a long awaited return of the heritage trams. Last night it was the turn of 717 'balloon car' tram Walter Luff to glide alongside the Illuminations between Pleasure Beach and Bispham. For an hour I was 9 years old again

Was this really thirteen years ago? My second holiday in the Veneto took me to Torcello, Murano and this colour-rich island Burano. While back home Manchester United were handing the Premier League title to their noisy neighbours I was enjoying a few of the finer things in life
