It’s been a long time since I looked into it, but if I recall correctly, here, even midwives need some kind of handshake agreement with a hospital. I know people who delivered at home, and not all of those births went well. 😬

my general rule of thumb is that it takes 3-5 years to acquire a physical skill, so you're doing good!

Oh, I don't remember. Maybe? Stuff goes in one side of my brain and out the other, LOL.
But yeah, we're about the learn some things the hard way, I guess.

I think one can be so rich that they are insulated from the "real world," but that reality does tend to come crashing in at the most inconvenient moments.

LOL! My OH took the two-wheel drive to work this morning, didn't even blink. Mind you, this is the same path that has the series of s-curves (without guard rails) that required me to turn off the "safety" features on our new card because apparently sequential s-curves aren't a thing elsewhere.

I think the reality is that average people matter more than rich TESCREAL folks, or Christian nationalists, want to believe, and we’re all going to pay for that mistake in the end.
But what do I know? I’m just a middle-aged mountain woman. 😂

As long as inertia holds, people will will going to work and paychecks will keep depositing.
But, I’m already nostalgic for the days when Soviet store lines were seen as a state failure, and my children’s grocery list requests didn’t come with the caveat, “if there is any on the shelf.”

As long as money is being made, the market will reward who it perceives as the money makers, imo.
As long as they have power, the Christian nationalists will keep imposing their morals (including churches should handle health and food security).

Ennnh, it depends on what you want to do. The TESCREAL folks (who I think are running this game) don’t have any use for anyone who doesn’t meet their narrow criteria, imo. But I think the market and reality and morals are all three separate things.

I want to say you’re wrong, but I don’t think you are. I kind of think that’s how we got here.
