I can’t believe I put my Crocs in sports mode for this.
This movie is kind of insane geographically. In the opening scene, an eagle flies through the Grand Canyon and then, a couple of seconds later in a continuous cut, it’s flying under Delicate Arch at Arches National Park. Animation rocks as a medium because where else could you get away with that?

Also, considering this is hand-drawn animation on a 23-year-old DVD played on a PS5, the animation is gorgeous ✨

Animation takes a long time to make, and an animated movie that came out in May 2002 had no way of knowing the post-9/11 climate it would be released in . . . but it’s still kind of wild that an ostensibly anti-American-imperialism movie flew under the radar during that jingoistic period

This movie is such a fever dream. The horses have eyebrows but don’t talk, the voiceover narration is done by . . . Matt Damon, of all people, and songs about the spirit of the American West are written and sung by noted Canadian Bryan Adams

—Met J. R. R. Tolkien; coached the set of Lord of the Rings on pronunciation of his languages

—Visited Mt. Vesuvius and it erupted 3 days later

—Met Rasputin’s assassins as a child

The last execution by guillotine happened in September 1977, so, if it were allowed, the prisoner could have listened to Fleetwood Mac’s “Rumours” album and seen “Star Wars” in theaters before he died.

Sir Christopher Lee witnessed the last *public* guillotine execution in Paris in 1939.

Earlier today, I ran into a spiderweb built between an electric box and a lamppost 15 feet away. I found it ambitious and ostentatious and I wondered if other spiders think this spider is just showing off. The McMansions of spiderwebs
